Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) MLA Ashish Shelar launched Gokulashtami celebrations and the Dahi Handi festival in Mumbai as an adventure sport competition that will test the mandals’ skills in forming human pyramids. “This year, we will hold elimination rounds at four centres, and finalists will vie for top honours. There are also two distinct categories for mahila mandals and for the men. Tuhin Satarkar a Pune-based
rock climber, will be the face of this year’s competition,” Mr. Shelar said. The elimination rounds would see mandals being put through a test of skills, including forming a five-level pyramid and breaking the handi . Last year, Mr. Shelar had organised Dahi Handi competitions in Mumbai in which over 20 mandals particpated.
