Ganai appointed Chief Information Commissioner

 Ganai appointed Chief Information Commissioner Governor NN Vohra on Monday approved (मंजूर की) the appointment of Khurshid A. Ganai, a former IAS officer, as Chief Information Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir. the notification to this effect was issued by General Administration Department this afternoon. “In exercise of the powers vested (निहित) in me under Section 12(3) of the Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information Act, 2009 (Act No. VIII of 2009), I, N.N. Vohra, Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, hereby appoint Khurshid A. Ganai, IAS (retd), as the State Chief Information Commissioner in the State Information Commission constituted vide notification SRO 325 dated 19th October, 2009,” reads SRO 76 issued by the GAD. Sources told Greater Kashmir that Vohra is likely to administer the oath of office to Ganai on March 3 at Raj Bhavan Jammu. “His appointment as the State Chief Information Commissioner shall take effect from the date he assumes charge of the post,” they said. A selection panel headed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had on February 21 recommended Khurshid Ahmad Ganai’s name for the coveted assignment. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh were also part of the selection panel. An IAS officer of 1982 batch, Ganai has held coveted positions in the State as well as in Central bureaucracy(नौकरशाही).

He has served in the Union Ministries of Information & Broadcasting and Home Affairs. He also served as Advisor to Governor NN Vohra for a brief period in 2016 when State came under Governor’s Rule following the demise of then Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.
