LUCKNOW: Defending champions Railways retained their overall title in the 56th National Open athletics championship on Friday. They finished with 274 points. Services, who won the men's championship, finished second with 187 points, while ONGC claimed the third spot with 84 points.With hot and humid conditions making it difficult for the track athletes, it was finally left to
the Railways' quartet of Sonal Chawla, Sini Jose, Chavi Sehrawat and Tintu Luka set the only meet record in the 4x400m relay clocking 3:37.90 on the concluding day here at SAI Centre stadium. All the other records - one national and two meet records were registered in field events during the four-day meet.
But the race of the day was the men's 800m, where it was an interesting duel between Railways' duo of Ajay Saroj and Vishamber Kolekar. Finally, Saroj clinched the gold.
