Election Commission of India (ECI) unveiled three IT based Systems – Samadhan, Suvidha, and Sugam

The assembly elections of Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has augmented the use of IT applications to make the election process smooth, effective and transparent.Election Commission.The extent of IT application associates itself with National level data compilation of electors, functioning at polling stations, work allocation of
officers on duty, use of mobile application and technology, GIS technology. The application ssuch as Samadhan, Suvidha, Sugam are formulated in the electiongoing State sfor  facilitation and better election management.
iv. Samadhan is a Public Grievance Redressal System which has been conceptualized as a Comprehensive system with multiple modes for receiving complaints
v. Suvidha is a single window system for Candidates and Political Parties to apply for permissions (Meetings, Rallies, vehicles, temporary election office, loudspeakers, helicopters and helipads etc)
vi. Sugam is a Vehicle Management System with the facility of Issuance of requisition letters for vehicles, Capturing of vehicle details with address, mobile number and bank details of Owner & Driver, Transfer of vehicles from one district to another district etc

Centre amended election rules, armed forces to now get e- Postal ballots
i. The armed forces service voters would receive their ballots through the internet from the Election Commission (EC) in the upcoming assembly elections.
ii. The Centre has changed the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961 enabling service voters, including armed forces personnel, to cast their vote in elections through e-postal ballot.
iii. This would cut short the delay experienced in the present system of two-way transmission of ballot paper by the postal services, a and adding that two-way electronic transmission has not been recommended by the Election Commission for security and secrecy reasons.
iv. The government had approached the Election Commission to make less severe the difficulties faced by service voters while exercising their vote.
v. The technical team of the Election Commission has developed a system whereby a blank postal ballot could be electronically transmitted to the voter.
