Retired IAS officer Shakti Sinha was on 29 September 2016 appointed as the Director of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML). His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). Sinha, who served in the Prime Minister's Office during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure, was also Director in India Foundation, a think tank aligned to the RSS. The
post of Director of NMML was vacant since the resignation of its previous Director Mahesh Rangarajan in the year 2015. The appointment of Shakti Sinha as Director of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library has put to rest the controversy sparked by the inclusion of his name to the post.
Sinha’s candidature not only prompted the resignation of Executive Council Member Pratap Bhanu Mehta, but it also led to the public questioning of his credentials and his suitability to the post.
His appointment was also questioned by Nitin Desai, an economist and former under secretary general of the UN.
