Mamata declares Hooghly and North 24 parganas as ODF district

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today declared Hooghly as an open-defecation free (ODF) district. The North 24 parganas was also declared as an ODF district. Nadia was declared as the country's first ODF district on April 30, 2015. The state panchayat and rural development department has taken steps to make all the districts in Bengal open-defecation free by March 2019.
Ms Banerjee said, April 30 is celebrated as Nirmal Bangla Dibas in the state. The chief minister held an administrative meeting here where the chief secretary, additional chief secretaries and other senior officials were present. She then inaugurated a slew of projects.
