Renowned Assamese playwright and novelist Arun Sarma dies at 85

Renowned playwright(प्रसिद्ध नाटककार) and Sahitya Akademi Award-winning novelist (उपन्यासकार) Arun Sarma died on March 27, 2017, at a private hospital in Delhi after a brief illness. According to

family members, Sarma died early Monday morning. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Sarma, who was born in 1931 in Dibrugarh district, has written more than 50 plays and books in his career. He also won a number of awards, including Padma Shri, Sahitya Academi award and Assam Valley Literary award.
