Internet pioneer Robert Taylor passes away 

Robert Taylor, a pioneer of Modern Computing and the Internet, passed away on 13 April 2017 following Parkinson's disease. He was 85. Taylor was instrumental in the creation of the internet and modern computer.

• Taylor’s engineering team was responsible (उत्तरदायी) for the development of Ethernet and a word processing program Microsoft Word.

• In 1961, Taylor was a project manager for NASA when he directed funding to Douglas Engelbart at the Stanford Research Institute, who helped develop the modern computer mouse. • While working for the Pentagon's Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) in 1966, Taylor marshalled(सजाना) the creation of single computer network ARPANET.

• Taylor also worked at Xerox’s famous Palo Alto Research Centre where he and his team created the Alto, a pioneering(अग्रणी) personal computer. 

• He was awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation in 1999.

• He was also awarded the Draper prize from the National Academy of Engineering for the development of “the first practical networked personal computers” in 2004.
