Gandhian passes away

Jnanadev Doddameti, Gandhian and former MLA, known for his honesty(ईमानदारी) and social service(समाज सेवा) , passed away at his native village, Jakkali in Ron taluk of Gadag district on Wednesday. He was 85. He was eldest son of Andanappa Doddameti, known for his role in the unification of Karnataka. As a member of the Janata Party, Jnanadev Doddameti had represented Ron Assembly segment twice. But after his defeat in his third election, he retired from politics saying that people had rejected him.

With a postgraduate degree in Kannada, he worked as a journalist for some time.

He has written poems, stories and has two books to his credit. He is survived by four sons and a daughter.

Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar, RDPR Minister H.K. Patil, the former minister Basavaraj Horatti and several others have mourned his demise and have said he was a model politician.

Large number of people paid last respects and took part in the funeral held on Wednesday evening.
