Noted economist V K Srinivasan passes away Hyderabad: Noted (विख्यात) economist and retired Special Chief Secretary of the undivided (अविभाज्य) State of Andhra Pradesh, V K Srinivasan, passed away here on Monday night after a cardiac arrest. He was 76 and is survived by a daughter and a son, family sources said. Srinivasan, who was also the Director of city-based Indian Institute of Economics,

had twice suffered paralytic stroke and was bedridden from December-end but was recovering slowly, the sources said. A 1963-batch IAS officer, he was known for his outspokenness, and had played in league division in Cricket in Chennai, the then Madras State.  Srinivasan had also talked about how the State of Andhra Pradesh was led down (नीचे उतारा गया) by politicians who favoured private sector over the public sector many years ago. He also served as Collector of Karimnagar and Anantapur districts.

He also served in Ministry of Finance and was also "very close" to the former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao, sources said. Former RBI Governor Y V Reddy who knew Srinivasan from college days, described him as a remarkable(असाधारण) person.
