MAHARASHTRA HAS A NEW CHIEF SECRETARY: SUMIT MULLICK Maharashtra's new Chief Secretary is IAS officer Sumit Mullick, who will take over from Swadheen Kshatriya. CM Devendra Fadnavis cleared the file late last night. Mullick, a 1982 batch IAS officer is currently serving as the chief protocol officer and also handles a unit of general administration department. He had earlier served as the divisional commissioner of Amravati and worked as secretary of school education.The other officers in the zone of consideration(विचार) were additional chief secretary (home) S K Shrivastava, additional chief secretary (finance) D K Jain. The present chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya was to retire (सेवामुक्त करना) on January 31. But after a specific request, the Centre cleared a three months extension. But the CM decided to clear only a month's extension(विस्तार) due to polls and other aspects. Though some in the IAS felt that he did not have enough experience of handling various departments, those who wanted him as chief secretary said that there was nothing controversial about him. He is also the senior most bureaucrat in the state after Kshatriya and will retire in April 2018.
