SPEAKING at an event where a socialist leader was honoured, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said on Sunday that revolutions can be brought about without spilling blood and lamented that parents of youngsters often hold them back from participating in social movements. Thackeray was the chief guest at an event at Ganesh Kala Krida Mancha, Swargate, where Dr Kumar Saptarshi, a socialist leader who also founded the
Yuvak Kranti Dal and brings out the magazine Satyagrahi, was felicitated on his 75th birthday. Pune’s Guardian Minister Girish Bapat and former chief minister and senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan were also present on the occasion.
Thackeray praised Saptarshi for the latter’s “honesty” in sticking to his ideology during good and bad times. “Many would wonder how did I came to attend this function since we two belong to opposite ideologies. I respect Kumarji a lot for his dedication to his ideology. He has also spent his entire life trying to build the youth in the society. In our society, there is a misbelief that to bring about a revolution, you have to spill blood. It’s not the case. We know many examples where not a single drop of blood was spilled. Our parents hold back the youth from participating in social movements,” said Thackeray.
Thackeray also praised Saptarshi by saying that the latter could have easily chosen to shift his loyalty in return for high office, which he never did.
“I’m sure Kumarji could have been a Governor had he chosen to be one. However, he’s honest to his ideology and his work and hence has chosen to remain where he is,” said Thackeray.
Two books written by Saptarshi namely ‘Sattabadlachi Don Varshe’ (Two Years of Regime Change) and ‘Former PM Chandrashekhar” were released at the event.
