The athletes were in celebratory mood and the rain didn’t affect their spirits. Great Britain, who finished as the second-best country with 67 medals, stole the show with their shoes flashing lights red, white and blue. For India, Sakshi Malik carried the tri-colour. The Indian contingent
was placed 67th with just two medals – one silver and one bronze. This figure was less than the six medals – four bronze and two silvers – won at London 2012. Like 2012, USA ended on top and their medal haul improved from 103 to 121.

The Rio organisers have kept the details of the closing ceremony a closely guarded secret. While fans expect that Rio would match up to London’s Closing ceremony where spice girls were part of show, the celebrity list to attend this year’s ceremony has been kept under the wraps.
Brazil’s football legend Pele, who didn’t participate in the opening ceremony, is expected to appear at the closing ceremony. Pele’s spokesman Pepito Fornos said: “He is walking with a cane. The problem is that if he sits in a chair you need a winch to get him out of it.
“His doctor thought it best that he continues physiotherapy, that he rests and we hope that he will be able to appear at the closing ceremony.”
The torch in Rio will be passed onto the holders of the next games in Tokyo 2020 before the fire is finally extinguished at this year’s Summer Games.
