Famed Indian actress Sadhana passes away in Mumbai's Hinduja hospital, age 74


Prominent yesteryear actor Sadhna passes away in Mumbai. Sadhana Shivdesani, who was a part of many evergreen films, passed away on Friday morning at Hinduja hospital. The cremation will take place tomorrow from her Santacruz residence. The actress was previously in news for suffering from a tumour last year. She reportedly had a small lesion in her mouth that was cancerous and underwent a successful surgery
for the same.One of the most popular actor of the 60s and 70s, Sadhana gave hits like Waqt, Woh Kaun Thi, Mera Saaya, Love In Simla, Anita, Ek Phool Do Maali and Hum Dono in a career spanning over two decades. Sadhana aspired to be an actress since childhood. Her father helped her enter films. In 1955 she played a chorus girl in the song “Mur mur ke na dekh mur mur ke” in Raj Kapoor’s Shree 420. When she was 15 years old, she was approached by some producers who had seen her act in a college play. They cast her in India’s first Sindhi film titled Abaana (1958), where she played the role of Sheila Ramani’s younger sister. She was paid a token amount of 1 rupee. Sadhana was married to director Ram Krishna Nayyar.They were married for nearly thirty years, until his death in 1995 from asthma. The couple had no children. Despite the fact that many of Shivdasani’s films fared very well at the box office, she did not receive any of the leading awards of the film industry.
