he Lok Sabha committee on the 8th day of the monsoon session of the parliament rejected AAP lawmaker Bhagwant Mann’s appeal to appear before the committeee with his lawyer. He will appear before the committee by 3pm. Bhagwant Mann had tendered an apology letter to the Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Tuesday for making a video of his journey from home to the parliament house. He also captured
the various security checks on his way and posted the video on social media after which he was questioned for putting the parliament’s security at stake. Unstirred by Bhagwant Mann’s written apology, Sumitra Mahajan proposed serious action against the AAP lawmaker. She said that all the members of the parliament are agitated and issue can’t be resolved with an apology letter as it is a matter of the parliament’s security. Adding that Bhagwant Mann was ready to apologise, she said that she would have taken a prompt decision if the video was taken inside the house. She also said that the AAP lawmaker was ready to apologise but it is a matter of parliament safety and security.
The Lok Sabha speaker assured action after BJP and SAD party started to protest against Mann’s video, demanding breach of privilege. Questioning AAP party’s silence, Congress said that Mann should be suspended and disciplinary action should be taken against him. AAP leader, who represents Punjab in Lok Sabha, had earlier said, “I met Speaker Madam, I told her that I must be given an opportunity to explain,my intention wasn’t to risk security of Parliament.”
