More than Rs. 800 Cr released and nearly 14.3 lakh benefited under IGMSY during the period 2013-16


the Ministry of Women and Child Development is implementing IGMSY, a centrally sponsored Conditional Maternity Benefit (CMB) scheme, under which the maternity benefits of Rs.6,000/- per beneficiary is provided in two equal instalments to pregnant and lactating mothers of 19 years and above, for first two live births, subject to fulfilment of certain conditions relating to maternal and child health. IGMSY aims to
contribute better enabling environment to support the health and nutrition needs of pregnant and lactating women by providing cash incentives in their bank/post office accounts between the second trimester of pregnancy till the child attains the age of six months. A total amount of Rs. 808 Crore has been released by the Ministry to States/UTs during 2013-16 and around 1432411 number of people benefited under the scheme during the same period. The IGMSY is being implemented in 53 selected districts across the country.

The Ministry has revised the entitlement of the maternity benefit under IGMSY from Rs.4,000/- to Rs.6,000/- per beneficiary with effect from 5th July, 2013 in accordance with the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013. The budget provision for the current financial year of 2016-17 is Rs.400.00 crore. 

The utilisation of funds are monitored through Quarterly/Annual Utilisation Certificates furnished by State Governments/UT Administrations. Further, the implementation of the scheme is also monitored through the Quarterly and Annual Progress Report furnished by the State Governments/UT Administrations.
