“Colombo Declaration” at the High Level Meeting of Interior Ministers

“Colombo Declaration” adopted at the High Level Meeting of Interior Ministers of the Indian Ocean Region to Counter Drug Trafficking in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Government of Sri Lanka co-hosted High Level Meeting of Interior Ministers of the Indian Ocean Region to Counter Drug Trafficking in Colombo, Sri Lanka on October 29, 2016.  “Colombo
Declaration” was issued on November 8, 2016 as a result of the High Level Meeting . The declaration called on the littoral states of the Indian Ocean to meet annually within the framework of the Southern Route Partnership (SRP) of Indian Ocean Forum on Maritime Crime (IOFMC) to assess and identify the drug trafficking threat in the Indian Ocean and counter such threats.
iii. The high-level meeting was attended by 18 littoral states of the Indian Ocean Region including seven Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Interior/Home Affairs. Apart from this seven international organizations/partner agencies and UN agencies also participated in the meeting.
iv. From India the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Hansraj Gangaram Ahir was the participant.
