Ex-deputy director of PAU's Krishi Vigyan Kendra passes away

LUDHIANA: The former deputy director of Punjab Agricultural University's Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Patiala, S.S. Malhi passed away after illness. The vice-chancellor, Baldev Singh Dhillon; faculty and staff of PAU and KVK Patiala expressed deep grief over the sad demise of Malhi and paid tributes to him at the condolence meeting in the university. The PAU also expressed heartfelt (आंतरिक) condolences to the bereaved (वंचित) family.
Dr Dhillon said, "Dr Malhi played a significant (महत्वपूर्ण) role in making the KVK Patiala one of the best KVKs of the country." A cotton and rice breeder, Malhi served at PAU for 36 years and was instrumental in developing 14 varieties of these (cotton and rice) crops. He developed paddy varieties including PR 111, PR 113 and PR 114 and cotton variety LH 900. Recipient of Punjab Sarkar Parman Patar 2003, Malhi had publication(प्रकाशन) of more than 100 research papers to his credit. He was also honoured by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.
