Country’s major ports rake up record profits
The Shipping Ministry has been striving hard (कठिन प्रयास करना) to reduce the turnaround time of ships and adding various non-core commodities to its freight(भाड़ा) basket. This has resulted in 12 major ports raking up record profits of Rs 5000 crore for 2016-17. These profits in the previous fiscal were Rs 4,000 crore, as mentioned on a national news portal. The traffic at major ports has been steadily(तेजी से) growing, and it reached a record level of 647 million tonnes during FY17.
The growth has been 6.79% compared to 4% of the private sector.
The Shipping Ministry has set a target for a profit of Rs 7,000 crore in 2017-18 said Shipping and Road Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari.
