Rajesh Gopinathan's journey to the top at TCS

Rajesh Gopinathan's journey to the top at TCS India's largest software services firm Tata Consultancy Services    today said Rajesh Gopinathan would take over as Chief Executive Officer, after incumbent chief N Chandrasekaran was appointed as Tata Sons Chairman. The firm also said it had elevated NG Subramaniam as Chief Operating Officer. Previously, Gopinathan served as CFO of the
firm while Subramaniam was President of TCS Financial Solutions. Gopinathan has big boots to fill as he takes over the reins of India’s largest IT firm. Here’s a look at Gopinathan’s journey to the top at Tata Consultancy Services. Education An electrical and electronic engineer from REC Trichy, Gopinathan graduated in 1994. He holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM, Ahmedabad.  Corporate Rise Gopinathan joined TCS in 2001 from Tata Industries, taking charging of TCS’ newly established e-business unit in the United States. He led the design, structure and implementation of the new organisational structure and operating model of the US-based unit. He was appointed as Chief Financial Officer of the company in February 2013. As CFO, Gopinathan was responsible for the financial management of the TCS’s individual units. Besides, his responsibilities included financial planning and control, revenue assurance and margin management. Born in 1971, Gopinathan lives in Mumbai with his wife Lekshmi, daughter and son. Addressing investors on a conference call post TCS' quarterly earnings today, outgoing CEO & MD N Chandrasekaran introduced Rajesh Gopinathan as someone having "a rare combination of business and financial acumen."  Chandrasekaran said he is confident Gopinathan will lead TCS to great heights with his vast experience and expertise within the company.  Congratulating NG Subramaniam on his appointment as the COO, Chandrasekaran noted the former enjoys a high confidence from TCS customers and is among the best professionals to talk authoritatively on fin tech.
