Nagaland gets bronze in Nat’l Youth Boxing C’ship Dimapur, January 27 (MExN): Nagaland participated and won a bronze medal at the 1st Youth National Boxing Competition held at New Delhi from January 16 to 22. Tenzingtseda Bhutia won the lone bronze medal for the state in the +91-kg category. Bhutia is also selected to attend the prestigious India camp to represent India outside the
country. The state youth team comprising of 7 male and 3 female Boxers were led by Boxing Coaches Tsungchetrenla and Ralyaveio-o and Team Manager Gaurav Dewan Rai.
Organised by Boxing Federation of India (BFI) for both men and women between the ages of 17 and 18, the championship witnessed over 500 male and female boxers compromising of 30 teams from across the states vying for top honours.
Meanwhile, in a bid to push competitors, the BFI introduced prize money for the 80 medalists (both men & women). There were 10 weight categories with each category having 4 winners. The gold medalists were awarded Rs. 20,000; silver – Rs. 12,000; and two bronze medalists were each awarded Rs. 7000.
