Delhi declared free from bird flu

Delhi declared free from bird flu  Delhi has been declared free from H5N8 avian influenza commonly known as Bird Flu by the Animal Husbandry Department of the Delhi government on January 13, 2017.
This is declared after 2 consecutive samples collected at 15 days intervals as per the guidelines issued by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers
Welfare. After this, The Delhi zoo opened for the public after 3 months.
Bird Flu :
♦ Bird flu or avian influenza( H5N1) is a viral infection that can also infect humans and other animals
♦ It occurs naturally in wild waterfowl and can spread into domestic poultry, such as chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese.
