Parliament Winter Session Begins

On the first day of Winter session of parliament, Lok sabha adjourned for the day after paying tribute its passed away members. However, Rajya Sabha is discussing the demonetization issue. During the month long session, nine new bills including on GST and surrogacy regulation are expected to be introduced in Parliament. Besides, Indian Institutes of Managements bill to confer statutory status to the institutes and
competence to award degrees, HIV AIDS Prevention and Control, Mental Health Care and Consumer Protection Bills will be taken up for consideration and passing. A series of meetings have take place ahead of the start of the winter session of Parliament on Wednesday.

An all party meeting convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Monday...was followed by another called by the govt on Tuesday.

The issue of demonetisation of old 500 and 1000 rupee notes is set to echo in the winter Session of Parliament.

The opposition is all set to raise the issue vociferously in the house.

The all party meeting called by the govt on Tuesday was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM thanked the parties at the meeting for expressing their views...and said that there should be discussion on issues of national interest and requested co-operation of all political parties inside and outside Parliament in the fight against black money.

He also urged them to work together to change negative perception of people about politicians.

The opposition is preparing a strategy to counter the govt in the session on demonetisation.

Congress, TMC, CPI, CPM, RJD, JD(U) and some other opposition parties met to co-ordinate their strategy on the issue for the session.

The meeting of opposition leaders saw no participation from AIADMK and BJD.

JD(U), TMC, Left and some other political parties have given notices for adjournment motion in Rajya Sabha...demanding a discussion on the issue of demonetisation.

Among the other issues that the opposition is expected to raise during the session are....Bhopal jailbreak and encounter of SIMI activists, situation in Kashmir, ceasefire violations, surgical strikes by the Army in Pakistan occupied Kashmir.

On the Govt's priority list would be passage of Central GST and Integrated GST bills .....to enable GST rollout from the 1st of April next year.

More than 20 bills are expected to be presented during the session. Besides new legislations, passage of pending bills will also be on govt's agenda.

Starting 16th November, the winter session of Parliament is expected to have 22 sittings and will conclude on 16th December.
