Big wins for BJP in local polls

After Maharashtra, BJP sweeps Gujarat local body polls; Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet says BJP's great win in local polls shows people's strong faith in development politics; says these results across India illustrate that people want all-round progress of the nation and will not tolerate corruption and mis-governance. After Maharashtra, BJP has swept Gujarat local body polls. Out of total 126 seats
, BJP won 110 seats reducing Congress to mere 16.

Vapi Nagarpalika and and Kanakpur Kansad Nagarpalika in Surat saw major win for BJP candidates. In Vapi BJP won 42 seats out of 44. In Kanakpur Kansad Surat, BJP won 27 out of 28 seats spread in seven wards. 

In Taluka Panchayat bye elections also BJP was clear gainer over rival Congress. 

BJP won 18 seats out of 22 in Gondal. In other 32 seats spread across Okha etc BJP won 23. The results come as a major boost for BJP as it faced elections for the first time after demonetisation move of Narendra Modi led Central government. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked the people of Gujarat for reiterating their faith in the BJP after the party's big win at municipal body polls in the state. 

In a series of tweets he said: I salute people of Gujarat for continued trust in BJP. BJP's great win in local polls shows people's strong faith in development politics. 

Over the last few days we have seen the results of various polls, Parliamentary, Assembly & local polls across India. Be it the Northeast, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, BJP has performed very well. I thank the people. 

These results across India illustrate that people want all-round progress of the nation & will not tolerate corruption & mis-governance. 

Senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar has said the results of local body polls in Gujarat and Maharashtra shows that people support the Govt's fight against black money. The leader also added that The Taxation Laws Bill will benefit the poor people. 

Ruling BJP has emerged as a major gainer in the first phase of municipal council polls in Maharashtra, winning 851 seats across 164 urban local bodies, making inroads into the traditional strongholds of Congress and NCP. 

Elections were held for 3,705 seats spread over the 147 municipal councils and 17 nagar panchayats. Of the 147 municipal councils, where municipal chiefs were elected directly, BJP nominees won at 52 places, compared to the around half a dozen places, where that party held the civic chief's posts in these bodies. 

BJP made inroads into the Congress and NCP strongholds, winning 851 seats. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet thanked the people of Maharashtra for trusting BJP in local body polls. He said this is a win for pro-poor & development politics of BJP.
