Widows in MP to be referred to as "Kalyani"

In order to bring in more sensitivity(संवेदनशीलता) and respect towards widows(विधवाओं), the Madhya Pradesh government has announced that widows in the state will be referred(संदर्भित) to as "Kalyani's" in all official documents. In line with the Prime Minister's call to use the word 'Divyang' instead of 'Viklang' while referring to a person with physicAl disabilities, the Madhya Pradesh government has announced that widows in the state will be referred to as "Kalyani's" in all official documents and welfare(लोक-कल्याण) related schemes.

Meanwhile, political parties cutting across party lines have welcomed the decision of the state government.

The state govt has stressed (जोर दिया) on the point of empowerment of women and also called for the portrayal of widows in a positive light.
