Plan to develop Sankardev's birth place as international tourist spot
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal today mooted (विवादित) developing the birth place of Srimanta Sankardev Batadrava with a proper architectural (स्थापत्य) plan on the lines of the Golden Temple of Amritsar to it as an ideal place of religious(धार्मिक) and cultural tourism. Chairing a meeting of the office bearers of a committee of Batadrava monastery here, Mr Sonowal said the birth place of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, the 15th century social and religious reformer and preacher of vaishnavite cult, will be developed and placed at the national and international tourist circuit.
He asked the committee to prepare a blueprint and get it approved by an architect of international repute.
Referring to the Golden Temple of Amritsar, Mr Sonowal said the architectural beauty has made Golden Temple an attractive tourist destination. Similarly, a well thought-out design and architecture is the need of the hour to make Batadrava monastery a must visit tourist destination.
The chief minister promised state government's funds for the same adding that funds would never be any dearth for developing Batadrava monastery as an important tourist destination. Mr Sonowal also directed the state's Cultural Affairs department and Nagaon district administration to initiate arrangements for celebrating the birth anniversary of Asam's first chief minister, Late Gopinath Bordoloi at Gopinath Bordoloi Memorial Museum at Raha.
He said adequate steps will also be taken to modernise (आधुनिक बनाना) the museum.
The chief minister asked the PWD (R) to broaden the road that leads to Batadrava and said the road would be converted to a state highway
