CM APPROVES METRO ROUTE TO HINJEWADI

CM APPROVES METRO ROUTE TO HINJEWADI Project in Phase 2 of Pune Metro, proposed by PMRDA, will go from Shivajinagar to the IT Park, attempting to solve existing traffic woes.To ease everyday traffic congestion at Hinjewadi Information Technology (IT) Park, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday — at a meeting held in Mumbai — gave his nod for a proposed metro rail line
from Shivajinagar to Hinjewadi. This would be part of the second phase of the Pune Metro project, and the route had first been proposed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

The PMRDA plan was approved at a meeting held in the presence of Fadnavis, PMRDA CEO Mahesh Zagde and guardian minister Girish Bapat, besides other representatives of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).

The route will pass through Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to end at the IT Park. The responsibility to fund this project would be on PMRDA.

Bapat told reporters, “A detailed pro-ject report (DPR) in this regard has already been prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). It has details about the number of stations, total expenditure for the 23.5-km route, and more. This corridor will be 100 per cent elevated. All this was exhibited before various officials in a presentation.”

Fadnavis had last week, during the Pune Metro stone-laying ceremony in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said that the state immediately wants to construct a corridor between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar on a priority basis. Soon after the announcement, the CM called for the meeting on Wednesday and gave his nod to the proposal.
