Suresh Kalmadi Declines IOA’s Life Time Presidency Proposal Suresh Kalmadi has refused to accept the post of life president with the Indian Olympic Association following a notice from the Sports Ministry to the IOA. The former IOA presidents Suresh Kalmadi and Abhay Singh Chautala were unanimously appointed IOA life presidents on December 27 by 150 members. Objecting the

appointment, the Sports Ministry issued a showcause notice to the IOA on December 28 and has said that all ties will be cut with the National Olympic body until Suresh Kalmadi Declines IOA’s Life Time Presidency ProposalKalmadi and Abhay Singh Chautala aren’t removed.Sports Minister Vijay Goel and former sports head Ajay Maken have strongly opposed the decision to appoint them in the honorary role. Chautala who had been the president of IOA from December 2012 to February 2014 was suspended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for 14 months accused in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games scam. Meanwhile Kalmadi had been the president from 1996 to 2011 and was jailed for 10 months for his role in the 2010 Commonwealth Games corruption scandal but was later released on bail.
