Veteran Carnatic singer M Balamuralikrishna passes away at 86Renowned Carnatic singer, Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna, passed away at his residence in Chennai today at the age of 86 years. Bala Murali Krishna was not just a vocalist but a multi-instrumentalist like his father- Patabhirammaya. Balamurali Krishna played the veena, violin, ganjeera and mridhungam. A fifth-
generation descendant in the guru-shishya parampara of saint-composer Thyagaraja, Balamuralikrishna was a child prodigy, who sang songs with his own words and later by the age of eight started doing katcharis (public performance).
He is a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and the Padma Shri. He was also bestowed with the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres.

Balamurali Krishna was born in Shankaraguptam, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh and started learning music by the age of five and by the age of fifteen he had learnt all the 72 melakartha ragas and had composed krithis in the same.
Although,  a native of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, but had spent a large part of his life in Chennai. He was a vocalist, a composer, and also acted in a few films.
He also remembered for his popular Telugu film songs, like Salalitha Raga Sudharasa Saaram in Narthanasala, and Mauname Nee Bhasha O Mooga Manasa in Guppedu Manasu.
