Ralph Fiennes named best actor at 2016 London Evening Standard Theatre Awards.Ralph Fiennes, A 53-year-old actor, won the best actor award for two plays, at the 2016 London Evening Standard Theatre Awards.The ceremony, presented by Rob Brydon, was held at London’s Old Vic theatre. The actor was awarded for his performances in both “The Master Builder” and “Richard III” at a star-studded bash held at

London’s Old Vic Theatre.

The veteran actor beat off stiff competition from the opponents Sir Ian McKellen, Kenneth Branagh, James McArdle and O-T Fagbenle to take home the Best Actor statuette.

Other Winners included

Best Play award went to “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” and was presented to director John Tiffany by Dame Maggie Smith. The show, a sequel to JK Rowling’s books, opened to five-star reviews.

Singer-turned-actress Billie Piper, 34, was the proud recipient of the Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress for her part in “Yerma“, by defeating Dumezweni, Helen McCrory and Sophie Melville

David Attenborough was presented with the Beyond Theatre award for his outstanding contribution to broadcasting and was presented by Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge.London Theater Awards

John Malkovich was given the Milton Shulman Award for Best Director for “Good Canary” at the Rose Theatre, Kingston, beating Tiffany for Harry Potter and Dominic Cooke for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom at the National Theatre.

v.Kenneth Branagh was given the Lebedev Award for his performances at London’s The Garrick theatre.

“Sunset Boulevard” star Glenn Close was awarded the Best Musical Performance prize, beating Sheridan Smith’s performance in Funny Girl and Andy Karl in Groundhog Day. The award was received from Elton John, who co-hosted the ceremony with the Evening Standard’s owner Evgeny Lebedev.

Sean Mathias’s production of Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land at Wyndham’s theatre, starring Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart, was named best revival.

Other stars in attendance included Mark Rylance, Orlando Bloom, Joan Collins and James McAvoy.
