Amitav Ghosh to be honoured with Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award

Padma Shri Amitav Gosh will be conferred the Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award for 2016 for his outstanding contribution to the Indian literary space. Talking about this recognition, the acclaimed author said, "I am deeply honoured to be receiving the Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award. It is a privilege to be included in a list of such distinguished honorees." One of the country's most celebrated
writers, Ghosh is known for his meticulous historical research that is woven into writing of great grace and elegance. Among his best-loved work is the Ibis Trilogy- Sea of Poppies (2008), which was shortlisted for the 2008 Man Booker Prize, River of Smoke (2011), which was shortlisted for the 2011 Man Asia Literary Prize, and Flood of Fire (2015), the final book in the trilogy.

About the decision to honour Ghosh with the award, Anil Dharker, Founder and Director, Literature Live!, said, "The list of finest contemporary Indian-English writers remains incomplete without the name of Amitav Ghosh. His immense contribution to literature is well-known and recognised far and wide. We are looking forward to having him with us and hearing his riveting thoughts at the festival."

The award is a part of the Tata Literature Live! The Mumbai LitFest that presents awards to honour achievements by Indian writers. The other awards that celebrate and recognise outstanding works include - the Tata Hexa Literature Live! First Book Awards and the Tata Literature Live! Book of the Year Awards in the Fiction and Non-Fiction categories, the Tata Literature Live! Business Book Award, Tata Literature Live! Poet Laureate Award and Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award.

Talking about the award, Harish Bhat, Tata Sons, said, "Amitav Ghosh is an author extraordinaire who has not only made a prominent place in Indian literature but has also earned international acclaim for his outstanding work. The Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award celebrates his contribution to the literary milieu and the many feats he has to his name."

The Tata Literature Live!'s annual awards ceremony will be held on November 20, 2016, at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Nariman Point, Mumbai.
