Sports to be included in the national youth awards

The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Vijay Goel, announced a wide spectrum of fields including sports that would fetch the national youth awards. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the minister pointed out that instead of the States nominating the persons or organisation for the National Youth Awards, it would be an online process henceforth(अब से). Instead of one organisation, the award would be given to ten organisations every year for their services. The award has been enhanced (बढ़ाया) to ₹200,000, a trophy and a certificate. The individual awards of ₹50,000 each, increased from ₹40,000, apart from a medal and certificate would be given to 25 eligible youth in the age group of 15 to 29 years, for their good work in the field of health, research, innovation, culture, promotion of human rights, art and literature, tourism, traditional medicines, active citizenship, community service, sports and academic excellence and smart learning. “We have studied all the clubs under the Nehru Yuva Kendra across the country and after revised registration brought down the number of clubs from three lakh to 1.15 lakh.

“The National Youth awards were first presented in 1985. They are given every year on January 12. We have requested the President to give the awards, on August 12”, said the Minister. When queried(पूछे) about the merger of ISL and the I-League in Indian football, which may affect a champion team like Aizawl, the Minister said that it was a complicated (उलझा हुआ) situation and he was actually going to Kolkata to study the question further apart from ensuring the timely preparation for the Under-17 World Cup.

He was confident that after his meeting with the Chief Minister and Sports Minister of Kerala, the May 15 deadline would be met for readying the ground in Kochi.
