Chandigarh to host Destination North East 2017

Chandigarh, Mar 5 (PTI) Chandigarh will be hosting a three-day long Destination North East 2017 event from tomorrow, aimed at showcasing North East as a potential (क्षमता) destination for investment.  The event is being organised by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), government of India and an industry body PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The event will see round table discussions and exhibition(प्रदर्शनी)  stalls showcasing various features of the North East Region in order to attract investments in tourism, skill development, food processing, handlooms and handicrafts, rural livelihoods, entrepreneurship and microfinance, horticulture and floriculture, medicinal & aromatic plants, organic farming and bamboo development, said a PHD Chamber release. The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jitendra Singh will inaugurate the 3-day event here tomorrow, said S N Pradhan, Joint Secretary, DoNER. Pradhan said North East Region (NER) consists of 8 per cent of countrys total geographical area and 4 per cent of countrys population. The objective of Destination North East, 2017 is to showcase North East as a potential destination for investment and highlight the rich cultural heritage(सांस्कृतिक विरासत) , traditions ( परंपराओं ) and customs of the region, he said. He said the main theme of this years festival is to highlight the use of appropriate technologies in all sectors of development for NER. The Office of Principal Scientific Adviser to Government of India and Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) are participating this year, he added. Pradhan said that the 3 H Mission, that is Horticulture, Handicraft and Handlooms, is the focus of Destination North East 2017.

Pradhan further said that Destination North East is held as a calendar event every year and Chandigarh is the first place, outside Delhi, to organise the event. He said the distinctive nature of North East will be taken to all the corners of India.
