Vijay Diwas is being observed across the country

 Vijay Diwas is being observed across the country Today people across the country observe 45th anniversary of Vijay Diwas. On this day, nation remembers martyrs, who laid down their lives during Indo-Pak War of 1971. It was the first major victory for a young Indian democracy and helped strengthen the confidence of the leadership and population. On 16 December 1971, Chief of Pakistan
forces General Niazi, along with 93000 troops surrendered unconditionally to the allied forces consisting of Indian Army and Mukti Bahini, after the defeat of Pakistan in the war.

This war resulted in subsequent secession of East Pakistan into Bangladesh. 

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar along with the three service chiefs paid tributes to the martyrs at the war memorial 'Amar Jawan Jyoti' in the national capital. 

Manohar Parrikar said its a day when we achieved a decisive victory and created a new country.
