Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to get Basava Krishi Award The Lingayat Panchamasali Jagadguru Mahapeetha has selected Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar for the prestigious annual Rashtriya Basava Krishi Award for this year at Kudalasangama. Mutt of Kudalasangama said that the mutt has decided to honour Mr. Sarkar for his selfless service to farmers. He said that the four-time Chief Minister, Mr. Sarkar, one of the most sincere and honest Chief Ministers, was working for the welfare of workers and farmers of his State. He said that while a majority of politicians were facing corruption charges, Mr. Sarkar had been giving a corruption-free governance, and he remained as the most honest Chief Minister.
“Mr. Sarkar is a model for any Chief Minister in the country,” he said.
The seer said that the award was constituted in 2012 with an objective of honouring people for their distinguished work in the field of agriculture.
In 2012, the first recipient of the award was the activist working in the field of water conservation, Rajendra Singh. For 2013, the award was given to social activist Anna Hazare; for 2015, the award went to another social activist Medha Patkar; and for 2016, Baba Adave of Pune was given the award.
