V.C. Padmanabhan Memorial Annual Awards for Excellence 2016 Conferred On Winners


The seventh V.C. Padmanabhan Memorial Awards for Excellence instituted by Manappuram Finance Ltd. in memory of its Founder were presented to the winners at a function in Thrissur today. K. Sankaranarayanan, former Governor of Maharashtra inaugurated the function while Smt. Ajitha Jayarajan, Mayor of Thrissur Corporation, presided.In the inaugural address, K. Sankaranarayanan referred to the stress faced by banks
on account of rising NPAs and emphasized the importance of effective management. Accepting the award in the category of Arts and Literature, the acclaimed novelist, director and screenplay writer,M.T. Vasudevan Nair said that in these days and times, the willingness to do something for the betterment of others in society is the need of the hour.

Dr. Sunita Narain, Director General, Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi, winner in the category of Ecology and Environment Conservation, said that climate change resulting in erratic weather patterns is posing an existential threat to coastal communities. She called upon corporate entities to do more to help such communities facing a threat to their livelihoods on this account.

T.K. Jose, IAS, and Principal Secretary, Department of Local Self Government, Kerala, accepted the award in the category of Civil Servant Achieving Excellence in Public Administration. P.N. Vasudevan, MD of Equitas Holdings Ltd., winner in the category of Business Excellence, reiterated that while making profits is a good thing, profits alone cannot be the aim of business. How the profits are put to use is also important, he said.

Earlier, in his welcome address, V.P. Nandakumar, MD & CEO, Manappuram Finance Ltd., referred to Manappuram’s role as a leading wealth creator in the stock market whose investors have reaped handsome rewards.
