Anil Kumble, the new coach of the Indian cricket team, can stay on as chairman of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Cricket Committee, a BCCI official was reported saying. Post Kumble's appointment, reports have surfaced that Sourav Ganguly could take his post at ICC, but it has been made clear that Kumble is free to hold on to his ICC post, alike Darren Lehmann and Rahul Dravid,
who have served as coaches, albeit in different capacities.
"My understanding is that he can continue to be at this post. There have been few other former cricketers who are now performing the coach duty and still the members of the ICC committee," the BCCI official was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle on Wednesday (June 29).
"Darren Lehmann is Australia's coach and Rahul Dravid is attached with the junior teams in India and are the active members of the ICC's high profile committee. Why should Anil Kumble leave this post?," the source added.
However, an official statement has not been made on this matter and it also depends on whether the former Indian leg spinner is keen to multi-task as it could be difficult to manage his commitments having taken up the full-time role with India.
